FAQs |
How do I get my originals
to you? We recommend sending your
originals via FedEx, UPS or Airborne Express air service for the ability
to track your package in transit. We highly recommend you insure your
package for it’s full monetary value. |
How do you return my originals?
We return all originals via FedEx air. Please
let us know an insurance value if you would like to insure the return
shipping of your originals. We highly recommend insuring the package
containing your original images. We will provide you with a tracking
number for all return shipments upon request. We cannot be held responsible
for shipments once they leave our premises. Return shipping costs
will be added to your final invoice amount. |

 |
How do I get my scans?
We can deliver your scans via FTP for quicker
service. Or we can send your scans on CD when we return your original
images. We generally deliver scans in the tiff format. Please let
us know ahead of time if you prefer a different image format. |
Are my originals going to be “oil” or “wet”
mounted?
No. Our equipment allows capturing an excellent
scan without this messy step.
|
Do you clean my originals in any way? We
use compressed air to remove dust particles before scanning but we
do not clean originals due to the potential for damage. |
Can I send ‘strips’
of negatives or positives? Yes.
We just need to know which exact frames need to be scanned. Extra
long strips may need to be cut down in to shorter groups of frames,
however. |
How do I get the best scanning
results? Send us the best original
possible. Film positives, negatives or slides are generally better
than prints. We can make scans from virtually any original smaller
than 12”x18”. Usually, a larger format original film or
negative will produce better results than a smaller format. Of course,
originals in the best physical condition will make the best scans.
Let us know what size and resolution you want your scans to be.
Please provide us with a size in inches and a pixel-per-inch resolution
for each image you would like scanned. Alternatively, you can specify
a file size in megabytes and your desired pixel-per-inch resolution.
What about cropping?
We are happy to crop your image. Be sure to provide clear instructions
(preferably a printed and/or marked-up example) for the exact cropping
you would like.
How much can you enlarge my image and still get a quality scan?
There several factors which determine the final quality of a scan
at a particular size. Film grain, the quality of the original processing,
age, soft focusing, physical damage and other factors determine how
well a scan will look at various enlargement values. In general, larger
sized originals, coupled with a “slow” original film speed
will yield the best results at great enlargement values. |
