Send us the best original possible.
Film positives, negatives or slides are generally better than prints.
We can make scans from virtually any original smaller than 12”x18”.
Usually, a larger format original film or negative will produce better
results than a smaller format. Of course, originals in the best physical
condition will make the best scans.
Let us know what size and resolution you want your scans to be. Please provide us with a size in inches and
a pixel-per-inch resolution for each image you would like scanned.
Alternatively, you can specify a file size in megabytes and your desired
pixel-per-inch resolution.
What about cropping? We are happy to crop your image. Be sure to
provide clear instructions (preferably a printed and/or marked-up
example) for the exact cropping you would like.
How much can you enlarge
my image and still get a quality scan? There
several factors which determine the final quality of a scan at a particular
size. Film grain, the quality of the original processing, age, soft
focusing, physical damage and other factors determine how well a scan
will look at various enlargement values. In general, larger sized
originals, coupled with a “slow” original film speed will
yield the best results at great enlargement values.
